EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has named Kevin Coble (Phoenix, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian Academy) of men's basketball and Kaitlin McInerney (Oak Brook, Ill./Benet Academy) of women's basketball as its Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week. The honor is the first for both.
Coble scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half as Northwestern held on to win its fifth straight game, 41-39 over Division III Wheaton Thursday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Coble hit a three with 5:44 remaining to put Northwestern ahead for good, 37-32. The freshman scored a career-high 25 points in the Wildcats win over Western Michigan last Saturday.
McInerney pulled down a career-best 12 rebounds and chipped in 10 points for her first career double-double Saturday afternoon against Nebraska. Six of McInerney's 10 points came at the charity stripe with the frehman going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. The freshman chipped in seven points Wednesday against DePaul.
