EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's women's fencing team competed at the USFA North America Cup in Richmond, Va., over the weekend. Sophomore Sam Nemecek (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) continued her impressive second season as a collegian, tying for third out of 99 entries in the foil division. Sophomore Megan Ross (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) placed 30th as the Wildcats' top finisher in epée. Senior Sophie Eustis (Andover, Mass./Concord Academy) was NU's top finisher in sabre. She placed 39th.
Also in foil, freshman Meredith Baskies (Lynnfield, Mass./Boston University Academy) placed 25th as Northwestern's only other foil participant.
In epée, freshman Christa French (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) placed 33rd, while senior Courtney DuBois (Chatham, N.J./Oak Knoll) finished in 50th. Christa's sister Kayley French Southlake, Texas/Carroll) placed 54th, while freshman Sarah Henning (New Berlin, Wis./Catholic Memorial) finished 61st. Classmate Joanna Niklinska (Granger, Ind./Penn) rounded out the Wildcat contingent with a 65th-place finish.
In sabre, junior Gina Annunziato (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) placed 48th as the Wildcats' only other participant.
