EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern freshman libero Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) has been named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team, announced today by the conference office. She is the Wildcats' first All-Freshman honoree since Drew Robertson in 2001.

Nobilio finished third in the Big Ten with 4.70 digs per game, tallying the second-best single-season total in Northwestern history with 508 on the year. She set the NU four-game match record with 34 digs on Sept. 8 at No. 9 Hawaii and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 16 after helping NU to an upset over No. 16 Ohio State.

Nobilio joins Robertson (2001) and Erika Lange (2000) as the only 'Cats in program history to earn conference All-Freshman team berths.

In addition to Nobilio's award, senior Lauren Greenwood (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) was selected as Northwestern's sportsmanship honoree. She now is a candidate for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, which the conference office bestows upon one male and one female student-athlete from each university at the end of the school year.
