EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 7 Northwestern has competed in three meets this season, and now has earned the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week accolade after each one. Senior Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) has picked up this week's honor, announced today by the Big Ten office.
Alexandrov won each of his three events on Friday as Northwestern defeated Wisconsin. The senior's best performance came in the 200 breast when he beat the field by more than six seconds to post an NCAA "B" time of 1:59.99.
Alexandrov also placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:33.50) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.99). This marks Alexandrov's fifth career weekly award.
Alexandrov joins classmate Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and sophomore Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) as NU's conference award winners this season.
