EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sophomore Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) has been named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, giving Northwestern its second-consecutive honor and Nilsson the second of his career.
In the Wildcats' 154-146 win over No. 18 Purdue on Saturday, Nilsson anchored the winner-take-all 200 free relay to help NU to a first-place finish in the event and an overall victory in the meet.
Nilsson also scored 27 individual points, winning all three of his events. He captured the 1,000 free by more than 16 seconds before also taking first in the 500 free and 200 fly.
Last week, junior Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) was the Big Ten's Swimmer of the Week, giving the Wildcats the nod after each of their first two meets of 2006-07.
