EVANSTON, Ill. -- Currently sitting in a tie for fifth in the Big Ten and riding a three-match winning streak, Northwestern takes to the road to face No. 10 Wisconsin and No. 13 Minnesota this weekend to begin a tough six-match stretch to conclude the conference season.
The Wildcats will face five ranked opponents in their final six matches, including all five teams currently ahead of or tied with the 'Cats in the league standings.
Friday's match at Wisconsin is scheduled for a 7 p.m. CT start and Saturday's tilt at Minnesota will sport an 8 p.m. CT first serve. Northwestern has won its last three matches, all in four- or five-game fashion. NU defeated Michigan, 3-2, Oct. 28 before completing its first sweep of a Big Ten weekend this year with 3-1 wins over Illinois and Iowa.
In the opening two matches of conference play this season, both the Badgers and Gophers came to Welsh-Ryan Arena and defeated the Wildcats. Northwestern nearly knocked off Minnesota in a 3-2 decision before Wisconsin swept NU.
Junior Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) became the 17th member of the Northwestern 1,000-kill club Wednesday with a 21-kill performance at Illinois. She currently leads the team with 3.58 kills per game and is second in the Big Ten with 0.41 aces per game.
One week after earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors for setting a school-record with 15 blocks against Michigan on Oct. 28, sophomore Chelsy Hyser (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) threw down 12 blocks Nov. 4 at Iowa--the fourth-best single-match total in school history.
Wisconsin and Minnesota are tied for second in the Big Ten at 11-3 after the Gophers were upset by Michigan last week. Two weeks ago, Wisconsin snapped No. 3 Penn State's 41-match Big Ten winning streak with a sweep.
