Nov. 2, 2006

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Shannon Schneeman (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) has earned ESPN The Magazine Acadmic All-District V first-team honors as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Schneeman, a mathematics major, is Northwestern's first Academic All-District honoree since she earned second-team honors in 2004. Northwestern's last first-team selection came in 2002.

Schneeman also received the Big Ten sportsmanship award for Northwestern this season after returning from injury to become a leader and a contributor everywhere on the field for the Wildcats. Schneeman, a member of the 2003 Big Ten All-Freshman team and a second-team Academic All-District selction in 2004, missed all of 2005 due to injury and made an impact from the first contest of 2006. Schneeman scored Northwestern's first goal of the season in a 2-1 win at DePaul. She followed that up with another goal in the same weekend against Kentucky. She has totaled 12 points on four goals and four assists and is a perfect 2-for-2 on penalty kicks.

"Shannon is everything you look for in a student-athlete both on and off the field," head coach Stephanie Erickson said. "She has been a huge player for us all season."

As a first-team selection, Schneeman is now eligible for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America ballot.
