Nov. 2, 2006

EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 7 Northwestern will begin the first of three-consecutive home meets at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, when it welcomes No. 18 Purdue to the Norris Aquatics Center for a combined dual meet with the women's team.

The Wildcats moved up a tick from No. 8 to No. 7 in the latest CSCAA dual-meet coaches poll after earning a 163.5-136.5 win over No. 12 Indiana last week. Senior Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for his efforts in the win after posting an 'A' cut, a 'B' cut and helping both NU relays to victories.

Senior Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) joined Grevers in swimming two NCAA cut times in NU's season-opener, while sophomore Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) picked up three event wins in the 500 free, 1000 free and 200 fly. Overall, the Wildcats took 11-of-16 events.

Purdue began its season with a 181-118 win over No. 20 Arizona State. The Boilermakers will first take on No. 17 Notre Dame Friday before heading into Evanston for Saturday's meet.

After the Purdue meet, Northwestern will welcome Wisconsin to Evanston on Nov. 10 before hosting the TYR Invitational Nov. 17-19. Those three events are the Wildcats lone home meets during the 2006-07 season.
