GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Northwestern's 17th-ranked women's golf team is living up to its ranking, as it leads the Lady Paladin Invitational by 10 shots after the completion of the second round on Saturday.
The highest ranked team in the field, the Wildcats pushed their lead from two shots after Friday to 10 shots with only one round left by shooting a second-round 303. Florida International shot a 301 on Saturday to shoot up the leaderboard and become the Wildcats' closest competitors.
Senior Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) is looking to make it a clean sweep for the 'Cats at the Lady Paladin. Kim, who is looking for her second individual title after winning last year's Big Ten Championships, followed up her opening 2-under 70 by shooting another 2-under 70 in the second round and holds a four-shot lead over Coastal Carolina's Araceli Felgueroso.
Liliana Alvarez (Durango, Mexico/American School of Durango) shot her second consecutive 4-over 76 and is tied for ninth heading into the final 18.
The Wildcats' third score in the second round came from sophomore Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy), who shot a 5-over 77. After 36 holes Hong is tied for 22nd at 12-over 156.
Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), who are in a tie for 25th and 39th place respectively, both shot 8-over 80's to give Northwestern its fourth score.
Competing as an individual, junior Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) is tied for 64th.
The final round of the Lady Paladin will be completed on Sunday with play beginning at 9 a.m.
