The Wildcats currently stand at 10-9 overall and 4-6 in the conference, one game ahead of NU's pace from a year ago. In 2005, the 'Cats went 3-7 in the first trip through the schedule before turning in a 7-3 end to the season to finish sixth in the Big Ten at 10-10.
Northwestern is tied for sixth in the conference right now with Illinois and Michigan State. Michigan sits one game back of that trio in ninth with a 3-7 mark in the conference.
The Wildcats split their matches last weekend for the fourth-consecutive time, opening with a 3-1 win at Indiana before falling in four games at No. 14 Purdue.
Junior Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) pounded home a match-best 21 kills against the Hoosiers before adding a team-high 14 Saturday versus the Boilermakers to leave her 43 shy of becoming the 17th member of the NU 1,000-kill club.
Freshman Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) had a match-best 25 digs against Indiana and added a match-high 18 at Purdue to continue to lead the Big Ten with 5.34 digs per game in conference play. Nobilio earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors one week ago.
Northwestern moved into fourth in the Big Ten in blocks per game after tying the third-best solo blocking performance in school history with 10 Saturday at Purdue. The total was the most since the Wildcats recorded 11 on Sept. 10, 1993, against Villanova. Sophomore Chelsy Hyser (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) had four to lead NU, while Courtnie Paulus (Belgium, Wis./Ozaukee) had three. Northwestern currently averages 2.73 blocks per game.
