CHICAGO - U.S. Cellular, Chicago's hometown wireless company, has become the official wireless partner of Northwestern University Athletics, further demonstrating the company's commitment to the Chicagoland community. U.S. Cellular Day at Ryan Field was held on Oct. 14, as the Wildcats battled the Purdue Boilermakers.
"We are proud to align U.S. Cellular with the Wildcats teams for the next few years," said Don Cochran, director of sales for U.S. Cellular. "This sponsorship is another way that we can support U.S. Cellular customers and the teams that are important to them."
U.S. Cellular's sponsorship of the teams is also supported by another hometown wireless company - Motorola.
"We are extremely excited to welcome U.S. Cellular to our corporate partner family," Northwestern Athletic Director, Mark Murphy said. "This new support team will help Northwestern achieve its goals both in the classroom and on the athletic field."
As part of the sponsorship, U.S. Cellular will support all of the Northwestern Wildcats athletic teams through August 2009. Extensive signage in Ryan Field will promote U.S. Cellular's high-quality network and superior customer service, which has recently been enhanced with the installation of a new cell site at Ryan Field. Additionally, football coaches now will be seen using U.S. Cellular-branded headsets during games.
"We're excited to kick off what we hope is a long partnership with Northwestern during a classic Big Ten battle," said Cochran. "We look forward to helping Northwestern students and fans celebrate another fun day of football."
U.S. Cellular also will support the 100th football game between Northwestern University and the University of Illinois on Nov. 18 as a sponsor.
A charter member of the Big Ten and the only private institution in the conference, Northwestern University has 19 intercollegiate athletic teams (eight men's and 11 women's) and numerous club sports. For information on Northwestern University Athletics, visit Northwestern Athletics.
