'Cats Hit the Road to Face Purdue and No. 16 Indiana

EVANSTON, Ill. -- After picking up a valuable point in the Big Ten standings in their last home weekend, head coach Stephanie Erickson's Wildcats (7-6-1, 3-2-1) hit the road for their final five games of the regular season, starting with Purdue and No. 16 Indiana.

Last Week
Northwestern fell to Michigan State and tied Michigan in its final two home games of 2006. The Wildcats came out strong against the Spartans, carrying the momentum of their successful road weekend, but Michigan State took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. Zendzi Neal (Washington, D.C./Washington International) netted the equalizer for the 'Cats in the 58th minute. The Spartans then went up 2-1 and held on for the victory. Northwestern and Michigan battled to a scoreless tie Sunday in the Wildcats' final home game of 2006. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Johnston (Denver, Colo./Denver East) made six saves between the pipes, including a game-saving stop early in the second half.

Scouting the Boilermakers
Purdue (10-3-2, 3-2) fell in its only match of the weekend to No. 11 Penn State. The Nittany Lions took the shutout victory, 2-0. Penn State scored its goals in the 23rd and 67th minute. Purdue was outshot 13-0 in the first half, 18-6 for the match. Parrissa Eyorokon leads the Boilermakers in goals (6) and points (15). She has four game-winners. Jessica Okoroafo is second on the team with four goals. Lauren Mason starts for Purdue in goal and has nine shutouts.

Scouting the Hoosiers
No. 16 Indiana (8-2-4, 4-0-1) battled to a scoreless tie with No. 11 Penn State in their last contest to remain unbeaten in Big Ten play. Junior goalkeeper Stacey Van Boxmeer was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for holding Penn State, the conference's top-scoring team, scoreless for 110 minutes. Carrie DeFreece leads the Hoosiers in goals with four. Van Boxmeer starts in net and has allowed eight goals.
