Oct. 10, 2006

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will host two of the top teams in the Big Ten this weekend at Welsh-Ryan Arena, and will play its second match of the year to be televised on ComcastSportsNet Chicago.

No. 2 Penn State comes to Evanston at 7 p.m. CT Friday, Oct. 13, for a match that will be tape-delay broadcast on CSNChicago at noon Sunday, Oct. 15. Northwestern's second match of the weekend features No. 16 Ohio State at 7 p.m. CT Saturday, Oct. 14.

Friday's match is Take a Kid to the Game night, where all children 18 and under receive free admission with a paid adult. Admission for Saturday's match is free with a ticket stub from the football game against Purdue.

Northwestern first played on Comcast two weekends ago, sweeping Iowa in dominant fashion in its first televised match at Welsh-Ryan since 2004.

The Wildcats are coming off a split of their first Big Ten road weekend after falling at Michigan, 3-0, and defeating Michigan State, 3-2. Junior Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) had 34 kills in the two matches, averaging 4.3 kills per game. She also served up six aces on the weekend to improve her per game average to 0.43--tops in the Big Ten.

Sophomore Chelsy Hyser (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) continued her hot hitting, raising her percentage in conference matches to .412, good for third in the Big Ten. She has not hit lower than .367 in a conference match this season, going .444 (9-1-18) at Michigan and .368 (9-2-19) at Michigan State.

Penn State is the lone unbeaten in the Big Ten with a 6-0 mark, 17-0 overall. The Nittany Lions have a 37-match conference winning streak dating back to 2005 after capturing the league crown last year with a perfect 20-0 mark.

Ohio State enters this weekend with a No. 16 national ranking and an even 3-3 record in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes earned a huge win over No. 14 Wisconsin last week before falling to No. 23 Minnesota. Their other two losses have come to No. 9 Purdue and Penn State.
