GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Northwestern's 17th-ranked Wildcats never let up, leading the Lady Paladin Invitational from start to finish to claim its first team title of the fall season.
Leading by 10 shots heading into the final round, Northwestern shut the door on all possible challengers by shooting a final-round 307 to finish at 912 (302-303-307=912), 12 shots ahead of Memphis. The title is the 'Cats first since they won the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational this past March.
Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) made it a clean sweep for Northwestern, taking home the individual title with a two-stroke win over Coastal Carolina's Araceli Felgueroso. The senior shot a final-round 76 to finish at even-par 216 (70-70-76=216) for the 54-hole tournament.
Kim's total of 216 is the second-lowest 54-hole tournament score in Wildcat history, with only Ina Kim's 211 total at the 2005 Mountain View Collegiate bettering it.
The title makes it two for Kim's career. She also won the Big Ten Championships this past spring.
The 'Cats got another top-10 finish from Liliana Alvarez (Durango, Mexico/American School of Durango). The newest member of the Wildcat starting lineup recorded her second straight top-10 finish, finishing alone in ninth with a 14-over 230 (76-76-78=230).
Northwestern's lowest round of the day came from Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy). Hong shot a final-round 75 to move into the top 10, finishing in a tie for 10th at 15-over 231 (79-77-75=231).
Once again, Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) tied for the Wildcats' fourth score. Both 'Cats shot 6-over 78's, completing the tournament in a tie for 20th and 34th, respectively.
Katie Trachok rebounded on Sunday, finishing in a tie for 53rd as an individual after shooting a final-round 77 (78-87-77=242). Trachok was one of five players to make an eagle throughout the course of the tournament.
The 'Cats return to action this coming weekend (Oct. 13-15) at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
