'Cats Dominate Burton Open

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's women's fencing team started the 2006-07 season on the right foot, dominating the Burton Open held at NU's Patten Gym in Evanston. They won 11-of-12 possible medals to start another exciting year.

"This was an excellent start for our first tournament of the season," said head coach Laurie Schiller. "I am pleased with the results."

The Burton Open was open to the public and the women fenced unattached to the men's division.

Associate head coach Ed Kaihatsu, fencing for the Chicago Athletic Association Fencers Club, won the Open Mixed Sabre (Class B2). Sophomore Adrienne Shon (San Diego, Calif./The Bishop's School) placed ninth in the mainly men's event, while freshman Whitney White (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) placed 14th.

The Wildcats are back in action Oct. 20 when they host their Alumni Homecoming meet at Patten Gym in Evanston.
