Willy Lock Advances to Second Round in All-American Championships Qualifying Draw

Oct. 2, 2006

TULSA, Okla. -- Northwestern senior Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) won his first round match in the qualifying draw of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships. Lock survived windy conditions to top Jan Zelezny of LSU, 6-3, 6-2.

"It was difficult to play in the wind," Lock said. "It is hard to stay focused and easy to miss in those conditions, but I missed less than my opponent and it feels great to advance."

Lock, who is also in the doubles qualifying draw with partner Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice), is trying to earn a spot in the main draw at the All-American Championships, the highlight event of the national fall tennis season.

Lock will play Michigan State's Nick Rinks Tuesday morning. Regardless of the result, he will again take to the court Tuesday afternoon with Hoffman for their first round match in the doubles qualifying draw.
