Balanced Team Effort Leads Northwestern to Second-Place Finish at Lady Northern

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- After another balanced team effort on Sunday at the 12-team Lady Northern Invitational, Northwestern finished in second place, nine strokes back of the host Michigan State Spartans.

This annual fall tournament generally features most or all of the Big Ten programs and is played on the course of next spring's Big Ten Championships. Every conference school participated in this year's Lady Northern with the exception of Indiana.

Junior Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) led the Northwestern charge, placing ninth with an 8-over 224 (75-73-76). Newcomer Liliana Alvarez (Durango, Mexico/Durango American School) fired a 2-over 74 on Sunday to finish 14th at 11-over (75-78-74).

Senior Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) bounced back from her first-round 80 with a 1-over 73 and placed 19th (13-over 229). Also finishing 19th were senior Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and junior Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair).

Sophomore Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) carded a 4-over 76 for the final round and placed 17th at 12-over (75-77-76).
