Aug. 18, 2006

EVANSTON, Ill.-- The Wildcats suffered their first loss of the preseason with a 3-0 setback at the hands of Rutgers University tonight at the South Jersey Soccer Festival hosted by the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in Pomona, N.J. The Wildcats finish the preseason 1-1-1 and kickoff the regular-season next Friday against Hofstra at 4:30 p.m. in Evanston.

Rutgers' Nick LaBrocca put the Scarlet Knights on the board first with a penalty kick into lower right corner at 5:10 into the game after NU was called for a trip in the box.

Late in the first half, Northwestern had its best chance to tie the game, but Rutgers goalkeeper Dylan Hastings made a diving stop on a shot attempt by David Roth with 8:57 remaining before halftime.

Chris Moore then tallied the second goal, which was assisted by Adam Sternberger, at 38:20. Moore took pass from Sternberger at right corner of the box, sidestepped a Northwestern defender and scored on a 15-yard shot.

Alieu Terry then served Sean Cameron for the third goal of the game in the 62nd minute. Terry served a cross from the left wing and Cameron scored on a header past NU keeper Justin Pines from eight-yards out.
