BLOOMINGTON, IND. -- Northwestern sophomore Keri Robison (Decatur, Ill./Keystone National) captured the mixed doubles title Monday at the ITA National Summer Championships, winning 8-1 over Indiana's Erin Clark and MIT's Peden Nichols. Her duo defeated her first round opponent, the tandem of Katelyn Bevard of Penn State and Weston Nichols from Cornell 8-0.
The ITA Summer Championships, the culmination of the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit, have been held at the Indiana Varsity Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ind. for the past six years and Robison's win marks Northwestern's third title. Mark Silva won the men's singles championship in 1997 and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) brought home the women's singles title in 2004.
Robison, a native of Decatur, Ill., returns to Illinois to compete for Northwestern in 2006-07 as a transfer from the University of Florida. In her freshman season for the Gators in 2005-06 she was a second-team All-SEC selection. Robison compiled a 6-0 singles record including a win in the first round of the NCAA Championships. In doubles, she finished the season with an 18-5 overall record.
"I think the mixed doubles title Keri won illustrates how good her doubles skills are -- something we look forward to seeing here at NU," said Northwestern head coach Claire Pollard.
