EVANSTON, Ill. -- With wins over Southern California's 18th-ranked doubles team of Lindsey Nelson and Luana Magnani and Georgia Tech's Kelly Anderson and Whitney McCray, Northwestern's doubles duo of senior Feriel Esseghir (Sarasota, Fla./Brickhouse Academy) and freshman Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) has been named to the 2006 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships All-Tournament Team, the NCAA selection committee announced.
The two earned the honor for the No. 2 doubles position as they outscored their opponents by a combined 16-4. NU's tandem clinched the doubles point for Northwestern versus the Yellow Jackets and put the Wildcats in position to take the doubles point in their quarterfinal match versus USC.
The two are 16-2 in dual matches this season and won 12 of 13 matches (not counting abandoned matches) to close out the season.
Stanford led the way with five selections to the all-Tournament team, including the tournament's Most Outstanding Performer selection, Alice Barnes. Miami had two selections to the team, while Florida also had one. Northwestern was the only Midwest Region team to earn an all-Tournament selection.
