EVANSTON, Ill. -- By beating No. 46 Purdue 6-1 last Sunday, Northwestern's 11th-ranked women's tennis team clinched the Big Ten regular-season title, securing the Wildcats a No. 1 seed in the conference Championship. The league tournament, which runs Thursday through Sunday, April 27-30 in Champaign, Ill., begins in just three days and the bracket was released Monday by the conference office. The 'Cats will receive a bye during Thursday's first round and will see their first action versus either Penn State or Minnesota at 10 a.m. Friday, April 28 at the University of Illinois' Atkins Tennis Center.

The Wildcats, who won their sixth conference regular-season title in eight years this season, are gunning for their eighth-consecutive Big Ten Championship crown. In the Big Ten, while the regular-season champion is awarded a trophy and receives the tournament's No. 1 seed, it is the winner of the conference tournament that is recognized as Big Ten champion.

Northwestern is slated to face the winner of the tournament's first match, No. 9 seed Minnesota versus No. 8 seed Penn State. The 'Cats experienced little trouble with the Golden Gophers or the Nittany Lions during regular-season play, as they swept both teams 7-0.
