EVANSTON, Ill.-- Kelly Amonte Hiller, head coach of the defending national champion Northwestern University women's lacrosse team, has been named to the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse 25th Anniversary Team, the NCAA announced today.
The former University of Maryland standout led the Terrapins to back-to-back NCAA national championships in 1995 and '96. The two-time IWLCA Player of the Year was a first-team all-America selection three times in 1994, '95 and '96 and a third-team selection in 1993. She also was named to the NCAA all-Tournament team three straight years from 1994-96.
Amonte Hiller is in her fifth season as the head coach at Northwestern University. Last season she led the Wildcats to a perfect 21-0 record and the school's first NCAA team title since 1941, becoming the first team outside of the Eastern Time Zone to win an NCAA lacrosse title-male or female-at any level. She was later named the 2005 IWLCA Coach of the Year for her efforts.
An expert sports panel picked the 25th Anniversary Team. The panel consisted of current and former coaches, athletics administrators and sports information directors. The team consisted of 12 former student-athletes and one coach for their outstanding achievements while competing and coaching in the NCAA championships.
Boston University will host the semifinals and finals of the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championships, May 26-28, in Boston, Mass.
