EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's men's golf team will make the short trek to West Lafayette, Ind., this weekend for the third annual Boilermaker Invitational. Twelve teams are participating in the 54-hole tournament, which is being hosted by Purdue University.
The Wildcats enter the week ranked No. 23 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings and 25th in the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches' Poll.
The field includes six Big Ten teams -- Northwestern, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and host Purdue. Iowa State and Missouri of the Big XII, Louisville, Notre Dame, Toledo and Wichita State round out the field. Minnesota, rated No. 16, is the highest ranked team in the field.
NU last participated in the Boilermaker Invitational when it took part in the inaugural 2004 event. The Wildcats placed sixth out of 18 teams that year.
The tournament is being played at the 7,083-yard, par-72 Kampen Course on the campus of Purdue. The Pete Dye-designed course is serving as the host of the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Championships.
The teams will play 36 holes Saturday and the final 18 Sunday. The first round begins at 8 a.m. CDT on Saturday.
