EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's 65th-ranked men's tennis team returns to action when it travels to Tempe, Ariz., to face No. 44 Arizona State at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 6.
The Wildcats enter the match after splitting pair of conference matches last weekend. Northwestern fell to Michigan 5-2 Friday before rallying to sweep Michigan State on Saturday.
The Wildcats are led by a pair of juniors in Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrügge) and Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College). Tempke is the 69th-ranked singles player in the country and has compiled a 14-9 overall record this season while playing primarily at the No. 1 singles spot.
Lock has come on in the dual season, putting together a team-best 10-3 record while playing mostly at the No. 2 singles position. He is currently riding a five-match winning streak.
In doubles, senior captain Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice) combine to play as the 30th-ranked team in the nation. They have put together a 5-5 record at No. 1 doubles this season.
Arizona State stands at 5-4 this season and has dropped its last three duals. The Sun Devils are coming off a 4-1 loss at No. 22 Georgia Tech.
The Sun Devils are led by Jonathan Kinsella and Ryan McBride, who have each tallied a team-high 14 singles wins. The two combine for ASU's No. 1 doubles team and have compiled a 10-6 record this season.
