TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Northwestern's 12th-ranked Wildcats opened Florida State's Seminole Intercollegiate on Sunday with a 2-over 290, good enough for fifth place in the 13-team tournament. Sunday's first round was highlighted by a 3-under 69 from sophomore Kyle Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto).

Moore's opening-round 69 put him in a three-way tie for second place, three strokes back of Coastal Carolina's Dustin Johnson. Moore is tied with North Carolina's Martin Ureta and UCF's Giwon Suh.

Junior David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union), who is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic, opened with an even-par 72. He is in 16th place. Sophomore Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) is 30th after carding a 2-over 74. Junior Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) is 41st with a 3-over 75.

Senior Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland), who was just named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List, is in 56th place with a 5-over 77.

East Tennessee State, ranked 22nd in the GCAA coaches' poll, is in first place with a 6-under 282. North Carolina, Coastal Carolina and Mississippi State stand between Northwestern and ETSU.

Second-round play continues on Monday.
