Latest NCAA Graduation Rate Data Keeps Northwestern Among Nation's Elite

March 1, 2006

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern once again has received high marks for its latest graduation successes.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released its 2004-05 Academic Progress Rate (APR) data on Wednesday, and six Northwestern programs recorded a perfect 1,000 multiyear score. Four other teams rank in the top 10 percent of their sport, giving the Wildcats 10 teams who rank at or near the top nationally.

No Northwestern team has fallen below the 925 "cut" score since the APR was introduced two years ago.

"Northwestern prides itself on academic and athletic success, and the latest figures continue to support our achievements in the classroom," said Mark Murphy, Northwestern's director of athletics.

Northwestern also received its 2005 student-athlete graduation success rate -- an outstanding 97 percent figure. Thirteen of the Wildcats' 18 varsity sports (for the years 1995-98; lacrosse was not a varsity sport at that time) recorded a perfect 100 percent GSR.
