EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the third time this season and the fifth time in his career, junior Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) is the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week.
Grevers broke two pool records and the oldest-existing NU school record during Friday's dual meet against No. 6 Michigan. The junior touched the wall first in an NCAA "A" time of 46.85 in the 100 backstroke, breaking his own pool mark.
He also helped his 400 medley relay team cruise to a win after leading off the relay with a 100 back "B" cut time of 48.40. Grevers finished second in the 200 backstroke, just .18 out of first but his 1:42.59 mark was good enough to break a seven-year old Wildcat school record previously held by Brian Walters.
He wrapped up his performance with a 43.59 100 free "B" mark as he led off the 400 freestyle relay.
Northwestern won a Big Ten-best seven conference weekly honors in 2005-06. The Wildcats return to action Feb. 23-25 at the Big Ten Championships in Bloomington, Ind.
