EVANSTON, Ill. - The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission has named freshman running back Tyrell Sutton (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) a 2005 Greater Cleveland Sports Awards finalist. The awards show will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel. The event, in its sixth year and presented by Medical Mutual of Ohio and Fifth Third Bank, will be emceed by three-time Emmy Award winning sportscaster Greg Gumbel of CBS, The NFL Today.
Sutton, who earlier this year picked up freshman All-America kudos from The Sporting News, Rivals.com, Scout.com and Collegefootballnews.com, was named the National Offensive Freshman of the Year by TSN, Scout.com and Collegefootballnews.com. He also was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-Big Ten selection.
Sutton finished his record-setting NU season with 1,474 rushing yards -- the third-best single-season figure at Northwestern. He also totaled 1,870 all-purpose yards. He led Northwestern with 18 touchdowns this year, including 16 rushing TD's.
Winners in the categories listed below will be announced at the event.
The awards show will be broadcasted live on Fox 8 News and WTAM in Ohio.
