EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) has been named to CollegeSwimming.com's National Collegiate Swimmers of the Week list for his record-setting performances at the Dallas Morning News Swimming & Diving Classic.
Grevers broke two pool and meet records and shattered the oldest Northwestern school record in the books en route to wins in five of six events. The defending NCAA Champion in the 100 backstroke, Grevers again bested Florida Olympian Ryan Lochte in the event (47.16).
Grevers completed the backstroke sweep with a win in the 200 (1:43.66) and added a title in the 100 free (43.68). Grevers also contributed to the Wildcat victories in the 200 and 400 medley relays (1:28.71 and 3:14.85). No. 17 Northwestern finished second in the six-team field.
Grever's NU record came in the 200 free, swimming a 1:36.13 to break Steve Steketee's record of 1:36.66 set in 1999.
Grevers has earned the CollegeSwimming.com weekly honor in each of his first three seasons at Northwestern, also making the list on Feb. 6, 2004, and Nov. 24, 2004. One male and one female swimmer from each NCAA division are honored each week.
Northwestern returns to action at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, against No. 19 Notre Dame at the Norris Aquatics Center.
