Mark Philmore Added to Hula Bowl Roster; Barry Cofield to Participate in East-West Shrine Game

EVANSTON, Ill. - Seniors Mark Philmore (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) and Barry Cofield (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) have each been added to postseason all-star bowl rosters. Philmore will participate in the Hula Bowl scheduled at Aloha Stadium in Hawaii. Cofield will join teammates Brett Basanez and Tim McGarigle in the East-West Shrine game at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Cofield will play for the East team. Both games are scheduled for Jan. 21.

Philmore earned second-team All-Big Ten honors at the wide receiver position and finished the 2005 season with 55 catches for 662 yards, which included six touchdowns. Philmore also rushed for a touchdown in NU's Sun Bowl loss to UCLA.

Cofield, a second-team All-Big Ten honoree as well, ended his season fourth on the team with 63 tackles. He totaled 6.5 tackles for loss and two sacks, while forcing two fumbles and grabbing one interception at his defensive lineman position.

Northwestern ranks fourth among all colleges with three players on the East-West Shrine rosters. Only Texas A&M (five), Arkansas (four) and Ohio State (four) have more players represented among 67 schools. NU, USC, Texas Tech and Wisconsin have three each.

The 81st Shrine game will kick off at 3 p.m. (CST) on Jan. 21, while the Hula Bowl gets underway at 6 p.m. (CST). The Shrine game will be televised on ESPN2 and the Hula Bowl will be aired by ESPN.
