INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - Northwestern's eighth-ranked doubles team of Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England,/Putney) and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) finished second Sunday at the 2006 National Collegiate Tennis Championships. Grier and Prousis topped fellow Wildcats Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Calif./North Shore Country Day) in the semifinals before falling to Southern California's Luana Magnani and Lindsey Nelson in the finals.
After beating Stanford's team of Deason and Nguyen in the quarterfinals yesterday, Grier and Prousis met teammates Conill and Rose in the semifinals Sunday. Grier and Prousis took the match 8-3, improving their record to 12-1 on the year and earning a birth in championship round.
There, USC's Magnani and Nelson edged the Wildcat duo, 8-3.
Conill and Rose claimed third place by beating Kentucky's Danielle Petrisko and Caroline Winebrenner in the consolation finals.
Grier played to a fourth-place finish in singles after falling to Florida's Alexis Gordon 6-3, 6-3.
