CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Northwestern's 13th-ranked wrestling team suffered its first loss of the season after falling to No. 8 Iowa State 20-16 Saturday in the first round of the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals. After falling behind 2-1 in the first period versus ISU's David Bertolino, Herbert took a 3-2 lead after a takedown early in the second period. Bertolino tied the score at 3-3 with 20 seconds remaining in the second period after an escape, setting the stage for an exciting final round.

Starting up to begin the period, Herbert notched a takedown following a Bertolino escape to take a 5-4 lead. Bertolino tied the match at 5-5 on an escape with 30 seconds remaining, but Herbert hit on one last takedown to take the match 8-5 with riding time.
