EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 6 Northwestern heads to Indian Wells, Calif., to begin its spring season at the National Collegiate Tennis Championships at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13. The NCTC, which is hailed as "the Wimbledon of College Tennis," is the first major college tennis tournament of 2006 and features several top-10 teams.

The tournament, which is in its 27th year, features the top-six men's and women's teams, along with top-ranked individual players from across the country.

The Wildcats will have a chance to view future opponents at the tournament, including 3rd-ranked Texas.

The Wildcats enter the tournament after being idle since November 6, 2005.

Senior Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) and junior Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) headline the Wildcat team at the tournament, as the two received national singles rankings by the ITA earlier this week. Prousis, who recorded a 12-4 fall record, was given the nod as the No. 12 singles player, while Grier was ranked No. 23.

Grier and Prousis received a No. 8 national doubles ranking by the ITA as well, after going 9-1 during fall competition.

College Sports Television (CSTV) will air a recap of the National Collegiate Tennis Championships at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
