The Game
The Wildcats (3-3) will look to get back on the winning track when they take on Delaware State (1-4) Saturday night at 8 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston. Northwestern won the only meeting last season 50-43 in Evanston behind 19 points from Vedran Vukusic.
Northwestern is coming off a 72-57 loss at Virginia in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge Wednesday night. Trailing by eight in the first half, the 'Cats reeled off an 11-0 run and led at halftime, 27-26. But a 24-9 run by Virginia was too much for Northwestern to overcome in the second half. Vedran Vukusic had 21 points for the Wildcats and Tim Doyle added 13 and five assists in the defeat.
Delaware State is 1-4 going into tonight's game. Last season the Hornets captured the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles before falling to top-seeded Duke in the NCAA Tournament.
A Look at the 'Cats
In the season-opening win over Lehigh, Vukusic drained the go-ahead baseline jumper with 12.8 seconds left as the Wildcats came back from a double-digit deficit.
In the surprise win over Charlotte the following night, Vukusic scored a season-high 28 and connected on 5-of-7 treys to turn away any possible comeback chance by the 49ers.
Then against Florida Atlantic Nov. 21, with his team desperately needing a bucket, Vukusic drove the lane and delivered a thunderous dunk while getting fouled for a three-point play to put NU back out in front by seven.
