WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- No. 13 Northwestern split a Big Ten double-dual meet Friday night, topping Michigan State, 205-91, but losing to host No. 14 Purdue, 171-129.
The Wildcats' overall record on the year now is 2-2, 1-1 in the Big Ten.
Northwestern swept the top two spots in the 200 free, with freshman Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) barely out-touching teammate Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) with a time of 1:41.07, .03 seconds faster than Grevers.
Junior Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) won both breaststroke events, finishing with NCAA 'B' standards in the 100 (54.95) and the 200 (1:57.91). He also swam a 'B' time in the 200 IM, winning the event in 1:48.61.
Senior Brian Davis (Issaquah, Wash./Issaquah) won the 1000 free for Northwestern with a time of 9:28.69 and the 500 free with a 4:33.07 performance.
Sophomore Kyle Bubolz (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) won the 50 free with a 21.04 and the 100 fly with a 49.99.
Northwestern returns to the pool at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, for a Big Ten dual meet at Wisconsin.
