No. 2 Jake Herbert Tops Jacob Klein at NWCA All-Star Classic

Nov. 21, 2005

EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 2 Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) topped Nebraska's fourth-ranked Jacob Klein 8-5 Monday at the 40th annual NWCA All-Star Classic in Stillwater, Okla. Herbert, the favorite coming into the match, dominated Klein from beginning to end, recording three takedowns and just under three minutes of riding time during the match.

Herbert came to the classic, one of collegiate wrestling's premier individual events, looking to prove that he deserved to be considered among the nation's best. He did just that.

Herbert came out of the gate firing, going right after Klein and recording a takedown just under a minute into the match to go up 2-0.

After ending the first period with a 2-0 lead, Herbert began the second period with another takedown.

While Klein went on the offensive during the second period, Herbert stuffed his attempts and went into the third period with a 4-0 lead.

While Klein did record two takedowns in the third period, Herbert notched his third takedown, tallied a point for an escape and one for riding time, en route to an 8-5 victory.

With the win, Herbert improves to a perfect 5-0 on the year.

Herbert and the Wildcats resume competition Thursday, Dec. 1 at Northern Illinois.
