Pollard Inks Three to National Letters of Intent

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head women's tennis coach Claire Pollard has announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Lauren Lui, Suzie Matzenauer and Samantha Murray will join the team for the 2006-07 season.

Lui, a Houston, Texas native, is ranked No. 23 in girls 18's according to the United States Tennis Association (USTA), with a No. 3 regional ranking in Texas. She was ranked No. 1 in girls 16's starting in January 2004 and held that position through the remainder of the season. Lui was also a 2004 recipient of the Bill Talbert Sportsmanship award, which is presented at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Matzenauer, of Tacoma, Wash., is ranked No. 21 by the USTA in girls 18's, with a Pacific Northwest Region ranking of No. 2. She was named to the 2005 USTA Pacific Northwest National Junior Fed Cup team and finished second in girls singles at the 2004-05 Washington state meet.

From Manchester, England, Murray is currently ranked No. 1,233 in the Women's Tennis Association's world rankings. Murray has been ranked as high as No. 198 in the world junior International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings, and is currently ranked No. 2 in England's girls 18's national rankings.

"We're thrilled to have Lauren, Suzie and Samantha join our program. They all bring unique skills and talents to the team and we look forward to them coming to Northwestern," Pollard said.
