EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's onside kick with 1:17 left to play in its 28-27 come-from-behind win over Iowa has earned the fan's nomination as this week's 'Pontiac Game Changing Performance.'
With Iowa leading 27-21 with 1:17 left in the game, place-kicker Joel Howells (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) executed a textbook onside kick that was recovered by safety Reggie McPherson (San Leandro, Calif./San Leandro) at the Iowa 47-yard line. A six-play drive was capped by a game-winning, 9-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Brett Basanez (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) to wideout Ross Lane (Ft. Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot).
