EVANSTON, Ill. -- Dominate. That's what Northwestern's Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) have done at the 2005 ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
Not only did the duo roll through five-straight matches to capture the doubles title, they also compete for the singles crown Tuesday. Grier and Prousis play at 3:30 p.m. at the Combe Tennis Center, on Northwestern's campus.
For the second-straight year, Northwestern wins the doubles title and earns an all-Wildcat singles final round.
After receiving a first-round bye, the No. 1-seeded doubles team blew past the doubles competition to appear in Monday's final. There, Grier and Prousis topped Wisconsin's team of Burke and Beck 8-4. Grier and Prousis won by no less than four games in their five doubles matches.
On Monday, Grier topped Iowa's Megan Racelte 6-4, 6-3 to reach the singles semifinal round. There, Grier outlasted Wisconsin's Caitlyn Burke 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to reach the finals. This is the fourth-straight year Grier has earned an appearance at the ITA Midwest Regional singles title match.
Prousis also recorded two singles wins Monday. She began the day by defeating conference-foe Nischella Reddy of Minnesota 6-4, 7-5. Prousis then rolled past Notre Dame's Catrina Thompson 6-2, 6-1.
In other singles action, Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) dropped her quarterfinals singles match to Burke, who then fell to Grier in the semifinal round.
