EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Northwestern completed its third day of competition at the 2005 ITA Midwest Regional Championships Saturday. Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) and Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) won their first and second-round matches.
Grier started off by beating Michigan State's Christine Bader, 6-0, 6-4. In her second match, Grier defeated Bowling Green's Ashley Jakoin 6-2, 6-0.
Rose won her opening-round match against Western Michigan's Rattiya Hinirat 6-1, 6-2. Rose went on to win her second-round match as well, beating Chisako Suglyama of Michigan, 7-5, 6-3.
Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparrel) won her first match of the day over Notre Dame's Katie Potts, 7-5, 6-4. Ghazal dropped her second match to Indiana's Sarah Batty, 6-2, 7-6 (2).
