EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team had three doubles teams compete in the second day of the 2005 ITA Midwest Regional Championships in East Lansing, Mich.
The top-seeded team of Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) drew a first round bye, then defeated Purdue's team of Vuelker/Schuler, 8-4. They will face the Bowling Green's team of Jakupcin/Nussbaum Saturday.
The team of Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) and Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chapperal) won two matches on the day. In the first round the two defeated the team of Clary/Courtney from Xavier, 8-2. The duo followed that performance up with an 8-1 win over Indiana's Clavo/Fischer.
Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savanah Country Day) and Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) fell to the team of Griffin/Bailey of Butler, 8-4.
Doubles action will continue on Saturday, as well as the first day of singles main draw competition.
