EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Northwestern's Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) went 1-1 on the opening day of the 2005 ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Conill fell to Marquette's Erin Watkins before winning her consolation match against Cleveland State's Jen Meyers.
Conill, who was Northwestern's only competitor of the day, played strong in her first match, but eventually fell to Watkins, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
Conill rebounded, however, making quick work of Meyers, 6-3, 6-1.
Tomorrow marks the second day of qualifying for the singles draw and also kicks off doubles competition.
Northwestern has three doubles teams that will begin competition tomorrow.
