EVANSTON, Ill. -- After going unbeaten at home against Loyola (Ill.) and defending national champion Indiana last week, Northwestern is set to take a coast-to-coast tour this weekend, with matches against Loyola Marymount and Princeton.

Last week, Northwestern started out on the right note, topping area-foe Loyola (Ill.) 4-0.

The Wildcats lit up the scoreboard when junior Gerardo Alvarez (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) was taken down in the box and sent the ensuing penalty kick to the back of the net, for his second goal of the season.

Northwestern struck again just before halftime when John Carlstedt (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) sent a corner kick to Adam Sirois (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) who one-timed it to senior co-captain Brad Napper (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) to make it a 2-0 Northwestern lead.

The 'Cats ran away with it in the second half, receiving goals from Brad North (The Woodlands, Texas) and Jaro Pylypczak (Lombard, Ill./Benet Academy) to take the match, 4-0.

Four days later, Northwestern turned its attention to two-time defending national champion Indiana. Last season, Northwestern recorded its biggest win in program history when it beat the Hoosiers 1-0 in Bloomington, Ind.--breaking Indiana's 50-match conference-winning streak in the process.

It was Northwestern's first win over the Hoosiers and propelled the 'Cats onto the national scene of college soccer.

This season, the Wildcats were set for a repeat, and didn't dissapoint. Northwestern scored twelve minutes into the match when Daniel Chille (Lake Zurich, Ill./Stevenson) sent a rebound past the Indiana keeper to give Northwestern a 1-0 lead.

While Indiana took 16 shots, the Wildcat defense played admirably, and the `Cats went on to tie the nation's sixth-ranked team.

This weekend, Northwestern faces two teams for the first time in the program's history.

Loyola Marymount (4-4-4, 2-2-1) tied both its matches last week against West Virginia and nationally ranked San Diego. Junior forward Bobby Burling leads the Lions with 13 points. He has scored five goals and notched three assists.

The Wildcats and Lions share two opponents this season--UC Santa Barbara and Illinois-Chicago--with each team going 1-1. Northwestern topped UIC, while LMU beat UCSB.

On Sunday, Northwestern crosses the country--from Los Angeles to New Jersey--to play a match against Princeton (3-6-1, 0-2-0 Ivy League). The match was originally scheduled for Oct. 9, but was postponed due to unplayable field conditions.

The Tigers are in the midst of a three-match losing streak, which includes a 3-1 loss to No. 20 Seton Hall on Oct. 18. Princeton is led by senior forward Darren Spicer, who has 10 points on the season.
