Alexey Evstratenkov and Juan Gomez Complete First Day at ITA Midwest Regional Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Northwestern's Juan Gomez (Mexico City, Mexico/South Florida) and Alexey Evstratenkov (Moscow, Russia/Moscow International Gymnasia) dropped their first-round qualifying matches Thursday at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.

Evstratenkov played Butler's Ross Parker. Parker outlasted Evstratenkov for the 7-6 (4), 3-6, 7-6 (3) win.

In his first match of the fall season, Gomez fell to Evan West of Butler, 3-3 ret.

Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) starts play for the Wildcats Saturday, Oct. 22 when he faces Brady Crosby of Western Michigan.

Freshman Marc Dwyer (Peachtree, Ga./University of Nebraska-Independent High School) faces Drew Eberly of Ohio State.

No. 23 seed Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) faces Ball State's Joe Epkey, while 16th-seeded Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrügge) plays the winner of qualifying match No. 7.

Finally, Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice) faces Notre Dame's Patrick Buchanan on Saturday as well.
