GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Northwestern started the three-day Lady Paladin Invitational with a 12-over 300 -- good enough for a third-place tie with 14th-ranked Michigan State. The Wildcats and Spartans are both eight shots back of host Furman.
Junior Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) paced the 'Cats Friday, shooting a 1-over 73. She fired a 33 on the front nine. Kim is in ninth place, two shots back of the leaders.
Junior Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) finished with a 3-over 75 and is 17th. Sophomore Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and junior Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex) are both 4-over (76) and in 24th place. Freshman Jennifer Hong, Northwestern's top-ranked player, is 5-over and in 38th place.
The second round continues Saturday with a third and final round slated for Sunday.
