Wildcats Return to Action at 35th Lady Paladin Invitational

Oct. 13, 2005

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Following a three-week layoff, Northwestern returns to action the next two weekends starting with the 35th Annual Lady Paladin Invitational this Friday through Sunday, Oct. 14-16, in Greenville, S.C.

The Wildcats participated in last year's Lady Paladin and placed sixth. Northwestern is shooting for a better finish this weekend.

"We're certainly capable of challenging for this weekend's championship," says NU coach Chris Regenberg. "We're very familiar with Michigan State and know the kind of team they have. I also expect the host school, Furman, to be in the hunt. We're looking forward to these next two tournaments."

The Spartans have played in the Wildcats' first two fall events and finished ahead of Northwestern on both occasions. Michigan State is ranked 14th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin index. Furman is ranked 43rd, followed by Northwestern at 44th.

The other 14 participants include (with ranking): Appalachian State (168), Coastal Carolina (102), Charleston (78), Florida International (124), Louisville (74), Memphis (89), Minnesota (103), Mississippi (81), Mississippi State (55), UNC Greensboro (118), UNC Wilmington (71), South Florida (76), TCU (72) and Winthrop (117).

The teams will play 18 holes each day on the par-72, 6,103-yard Furman Golf Course. Furman won last year's title.
