EVANSTON, Ill.-- A rematch of the 2005 NCAA National Title game with the University of Virginia and matches against three top-10 finishers from a year ago on the same day highlight the 2005 Northwestern women's lacrosse fall slate.
"We have packed our fall with great competition," head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller said. "We have a talented group of freshmen that have joined us this fall. In hopes of developing these players and meshing them with our veterans, we have establish an extremely difficult fall schedule. This competition will prepare the team for an exciting 2006 season."
The defending national champions begin preparation for their title defense in 2006 with matches against Ohio State, Denver and Notre Dame the weekend of Oct. 8 in Evanston.
From there, Amonte Hiller, the 2005 IWLCA and ALC National Coach of the Year, takes her squad on the road to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia Friday, Oct. 14 for matches with Penn and Delaware, both top-20 programs.
The Wildcats then finish with a bang when they head to Princeton, N.J. the following day for a busy Saturday against some of the nation's best in North Carolina, Temple, Princeton and Virginia.
Northwestern wraps up the fall portion of its schedule with the annual Alumni Game at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 in Evanston.
The Wildcats capped off a historic 2005 campaign with an unblemished 21-0 record, capturing NU's first NCAA team title since 1941 and becoming the first school outside the Eastern Time Zone to win it all.
