DURHAM, N.C. -- After two rounds of the Coca-Cola Duke Golf Classic, 15th-ranked Northwestern is 4-under (288-284=572) and in fifth place in the 15-team tournament. The Wildcats are 10 strokes back of tourney co-leaders Duke and Coastal Carolina, who stand at 14-under (562).
Minnesota, one of four Big Ten teams in the event, is in third place at 8-under and Charlotte is in fourth, one stroke in front of the 'Cats.
Junior David Merkow (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) and senior Dillon Dougherty (Woodland, Calif./Woodland) carded a respective 68 and 69 in Sunday's second round to climb into the tourney's top-20 leaderboard. Merkow, who is coming off the individual title at last week's Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge, is 1-under (75-68=143), along with Dougherty (74-69=143). Both players are tied for 18th place.
Junior Chris Wilson (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and sophomore Dan Doyle (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) are both one shot back of Merkow and Dougherty with even-par 144's. Wilson had rounds of 71 and 73, while Doyle carded a 70 and 74. They are tied for 21st place.
Northwestern's final player, senior Bryson Young (Reno, Nev./Galena) is 40th at 3-over (73-74=147).
Monday's final round begins at 7 a.m. CT.
