EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern fencing team will open the 2005-06 season this weekend when they host the USFA Burton Open at Patten Gym on Saturday. The Wildcats finished the 2004-05 season with a 33-4 dual record.
The USFA Burton is an open tournament, meaning anyone can enter and compete.
Last year, Northwestern claimed the top three spots in the women's foil, with the now-graduated Julia Foldi taking first place, junior Jessica Florendo taking second place and senior Christina Wang and sophomore Natalie Wang tying for third place.
Senior Sharon Sullivan and junior Courtney DuBois finished first and second in the Epée competition. In the sabre competition, seniors Emily Pasternak and Mai Vu claimed first and second place.
Assistant coach Ed Kaihatsu took third place in the men's foil and head coach Laurie Schiller finished ninth in the men's sabre.
