PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Northwestern's Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) reached the round of 16 at the 2005 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
After recording three wins in the qualifying portion of the tournament, Prousis started main draw competition Thursday by taking on No. 17 Amanda Fish of Vanderbilt.
The match was very back-and-forth, with Prousis taking the first set with ease, then dropping the second without winning a game. Prousis wouldn't be denied in the third set, however, and went on to win the match, 6-1, 0-6, 6-3.
No. 11 Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) played her first match of the tournament Thursday, but dropped it to 10th-ranked Alice Barnes of Stanford, 6-1, 6-2.
Grier and Prousis will both be back in action Friday. Prousis will face Georgia Tech's Kristi Miller, while Grier goes up against Cal's Zsuzzana Fodor.
